Join us on Tuesday, April 23 for an evening celebration to launch All Things Seen and Unseen, the debut novel by RJ McDaniel, published by ECW Press!
We are thrilled to celebrate this excellent emerging writer. McDaniel was our 2023 Writer in Residence at Upstart & Crow, and we couldn’t be more excited for them as they launch their first major work into the world.
All Things Seen and Unseen is a queer/racial modern gothic horror. Protagonist Alex, after a period in rehab, is kicked out of school and student housing, leaving her homeless. She gets a job house-sitting in a large home on a small island and must try to survive as an outsider in a remote, insular community, living through the trauma she has repressed to survive.
This event is free, and books will be for sale. The author will do a reading and then converse about the work with Sofia Osborne, a writer, editor and audio producer. Capacity is limited, so please RSVP for your spot here.
About the author:
RJ McDaniel is a writer, at least for now. Their essays on baseball and other topics have been featured in Catapult, PRISM, and VICE Sports, among others. They live in Vancouver. This is their debut novel.
About the moderator:
Sofia Osborne is a writer, editor and audio producer. She holds an MFA in creative writing from the University of British Columbia. Her journalism, essays, and fiction have appeared in Maisonneuve, the Tyee, the Narwhal, This Magazine, and more.
